Lauren Wren

Lauren Wrenn is an after-school program director. She earned her B.A. in English and French at Indiana University before coming to New York. During her brief career in the publishing industry, she came to the realization that she wanted to teach and was thankfully accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows program which allowed her to begin teaching right away while earning her M.A. in English Education in the evenings.

Lauren began her teaching career as a 9th grade teacher in Brooklyn before transferring to the Jacob Riis School where to teach sixth grade English language arts and social studies for three years.

In her time at Jacob Riis, Lauren loved exploring the connections between the philosophy of Learning Cultures and its methods. This learning has challenged and inspired her to become a better listener and sharper thinker—in both her teaching and personal life. She recently left teaching to design and direct a new after-school program in the South Bronx where her experiences in Learning Cultures continue to shape the program she directs today.
